This message was sent to various antioch mailing lists and posted on antiochians.org this past week:

“This weekend, Eric Bates, co-chair of the ACCC, will be answering questions from the Antioch College community at large. He’ll be recording a podcast for community members to download and listen. If you have a question for Eric about the ACCC, the future of Antioch College, the state of the campus, and how we are moving forward, please send your queries to: questions@antiochians.org. Please send your question by 12 noon EST on Friday, February 8th.”

This recording was created by Eric in respone to the questions that were submitted. Thanks to Eric Bates for taking the time to do this (and having the patience to wait through a few tech problems before the recording started). Thanks to Christian Feuerstein and Lyn Chamberlin for collating the questions and organizing this event.

Is there any possibility that any of the big foundations could be impressed by the success to date of ACCC in rounding up significant funding?

First and foremost I applaud ACCC’s stepping into the gap to work towards the independence of the college. However, I fear now, as I did when the Alumni Association was in charge, that our efforts remain too timid.

ACCC is acting with an abundance of caution and this seems to be preventing any kind of “plan” from being developed. We can not wait on the visioning process given how long such a process might take. I urge ACCC to either add board members or associates who can stimulate the process to start.

It is essential to have “government” in exile with shadow plans in place to jump the “day after”.

Can someone provide an in-depth background analysis regarding the problems that led to the plan to close the college and how ACCC hopes to address those problems? Obviously, if the problems aren’t acknowledged and addressed, just keeping the institution going after July won’t solve anything in the long run. To what extent has the academic curriculum at the college contributed to financial failure? Is ACCC envisioning any fundamental changes in the curriculum?
